Regularity and Recognitions
Regularity is in a certain way connected to recognitions that all Regular Lodges of the World bilaterally exchange. The basis of these recognitions are: regularity - as previously described, but also the status that one Grand Lodge has in the territory of its foundation, as the only sovereign authority and its rights and the basis of its foundation, as well as in the International level, where Regular Grand Lodges through bilateral friendly relationship and collaboration can also formalize this relationship with formal Act of the Recognition. Certain international bodies can also make decisions of its regularity and recommend recognitions, by evaluating the status of that Grand Lodge.

By recognizing principles of the Freemasonry and its ancient rules, RGLS is the only sovereign, right, regular and recognized Masonic authority in the territory of Serbia. It is continues the tradition and is rightful successor of The Grand Lodge of Yugoslavia, established 1919. RGLS is recognized by more than 100 Grand Lodges from all over the world. RGLS is recognized by over 100 Regular Grand Lodges from all over the world. Among countries that have exchanged bilateral recognition with RGLS are also the oldest and most important Masonic jurisdictions of the world. Its status is furthermore confirmed by the Recognition Commission of the Grand Masters of America, Canada and Mexico in its meeting in February 2007.

Of course, the history of Serbian freemasonry and its tradition are taking much more in the past - all the way to 18th century, but Masonic Lodges of the time, due to different historical circumstances, were working under the jurisdiction of other Grand Lodges, such are Grand Orient of Italy, Germany, Hungary, depending of the time and the territory they were active.

First right and sovereign Masonic authority in the Serbian territory was founded and internationally recognized in 1912, through the foundation of the Supreme Council of Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite. Scottish Rite contains many levels of spiritual progression, but also consisted of first three degrees, usually forming the Grand Lodge. This form of masonic organization was headed by Br. Georg Weifert, as its Grand Commander, but also as a Grand Master.

The formal division of this two orders, as per ancient masonic principles, happened in 1919, by the foundation of the Grand Lodge of Yugoslavia, and its regularity and recognitions were accepted all over the world.

By respecting this form and by following principles, and after the change of its name, as a legal successor of this Grand Lodge and by respecting the tradition, The Regular Grand Lodge of Serbia took 1919 as a foundation year. This doesn't mean that it doesn't give due honor to its predecessors and the most respectful persons of the Serbian cultural and political history of 18th and 19th century. Furthermore, RGLS sees its essential origin in them.
