This website is an attempt to present objective historical facts to document that Freemasonry is a progressive and socially indispensable organisation. It is our desire to overcome existing prejudices using our own “Masonic ways,” our own principles and conventions. The scholarly and professional approach provided here gives us the hope that Freemasonry will eventually become more realistically accepted by non-Masons, and be provided an opportunity to take its rightful place as a serious organisation whose activities are important for the entire community. Through a brief overview of the lives and works of Great Men who have left their mark on Serbian and world history, this website once again confirms the Craft’s role in the quest for a more humane and tolerant world. Freemasonry has been around for more than three centuries. Over the time of the Craft’s existence, states have come and gone; dynasties have changed; rulers, regimes, social systems – were born, lived, and then passed away. Only Freemasonry has survived in its original form to the present day. Masons the world over share the same rituals and symbols; they understand each other no matter what language they speak, and no matter which God they worship, or what their political beliefs; regardless of the colour of their skin, their ethnic background, or their educational background. They are all on the same level. Many have tried in vain to compare Freemasonry with some religious sect, to claim it has been yet another attempt to create a counterbalance to religion, or to allege that it has been, in fact, a powerful structure that has run the world from behind the scenes. Freemasonry is not a sect, not a religion, and not a political organisation; Freemasonry is A WAY OF LIFE. It is the ultimate duty of every Brother to cherish tolerance, humanly love, and humanity to illuminate his own surroundings so that anyone can see the beneficial effects of the Masonry. The effect of this illumination has been spreading from the very beginning of time, and will keep on spreading for eternity. The Regular Grand Lodge of Serbia, recognised by more than one hundred countries, holds an important place in the World Chain. We want to present our homeland for what it really is – a country of rich history and tradition; a country of remarkable culture; a country that is a proponent of civilisation and democracy, one that seeks its rightful place in a better and more beautiful world, because people in Serbia – who have seen much trouble – deserve this. As an official successor to the pre-war Grand Lodge of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes “Yugoslavia”, later as the Grand Lodge “Yugoslavia”, whose first Grand Master was Brother Georges Weifert, RGLS marks 90 years of continuity with Freemasonry in the region. This website is here to celebrate the event. It honours Freemasonry in the entire world, and in our own country – Serbia. Freemasonry is not a secret. It is a society with a secret. The aim of Freemasonry is to transform mankind into humanity! The fact that this burden is on the shoulders of simple and ordinary human beings with all their virtues and faults tells us that there is still a long, long way for us to go.
